Meet Dr. Bleszynski

Dr. Maria E. Bleszynski has been a passionate advocate for women’s health care since opening her private practice near Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) in 1989, where she continues to hold privileges. With expertise in obstetrics, gynecology, menopause, and premenopausal care, her journey into medicine was inspired by her early experiences in French Guinea, Africa, where she witnessed significant disparities in women’s health. Originally from Poland, Dr. Bleszynski earned her medical degree from Jagiellonian University in Krakow in 1977 and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Her commitment to research and teaching was evident during her early career, but in 1981, she moved to Canada to begin a new chapter, balancing her professional aspirations with raising her young family.

After completing her OB/GYN residency in Ottawa in 1989, Dr. Bleszynski established her practice in Surrey while raising her two sons, Peter and Michael. Despite personal challenges, including the loss of her husband to lung cancer when her children were just 7 and 3 years old, she remained dedicated to her career. A member of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) since 1991, Dr. Bleszynski has focused her practice on addressing women’s health concerns across all age groups. Today, she combines her clinical expertise with her passion for teaching and mentoring, enriched by Surrey Memorial Hospital’s collaboration with the University of British Columbia.
